COMMUNITY-POWERED GIGABIT CONNECTIVITY
Yes, we have the Internet here. Like, really, really fast Internet. But it’s a little different than what you might be used to. Our region-wide, community-funded nonprofit gigabit broadband was built from the ground up to ensure that our residents can access affordable, blazing-fast Internet to help them do what they need to do. In fact, we’re one of a handful of communities in the U.S. to have speedy gigabit fiber-optic Internet service throughout the region.
How fast, you ask? The fiber optic service provides speeds up to 1,000 Mbps (1 Gig), giving you a connection that is up to 100 times faster than most cable modem connections. That means more time to do what you do. Whether you’re streaming video, chatting online or downloading the human genome, Champaign-Urbana’s gigabit broadband has you covered. After all, we’ve always been a little ahead of the curve.
We’re also home to ISPs serving other states, because we’re good at the whole Internet thing. And we have the world’s fastest supercomputer on a college campus. Our downtown areas have public WiFi, and we accept mobile payments in parking meters. Don’t blame us if you get a ticket.
