Enjoy that air conditioning in the sweltering heat of summer? Like not having unpleasant odors in the workplace? You’re welcome. Because that was the work of University of Illinois alumnus and faculty member, Dr. Seichi Konzo.

After completing his master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois, he joined our faculty. As part of his tenure at the school, he published some of the first research on forced-air heating and the loss of air pressure flowing through sheet-metal ducts. His work, which was part of the school’s Residential Heating and Cooling Project, predated the commercial release of air conditioning by nearly 20 years. Pretty cool, right?
